Walk through the store to look for free magazines. Watch television programs that focus on interior design and low cost redesign.

Design Patterns

Look for patterns on tiles, clothing, or in nature. Draw possible design plans and share them with a spouse or close friend if second opinions are desired. Sit outside in local parks or near the ocean to be inspired by nature. Some fun ideas to test out are argyle, plaid, or simple stripes!

Select the colors that will be used for the design. Most hardware and home improvement stores offer small sample sized jars of paint. Use these small portions of paint to test out design ideas on a canvas or even a poster board.
