Creating unique wall designs with painters tape and paint is one way to add style to any living space. Living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, and even eating areas can be quickly transformed in an afternoon. Here are a few tips for incorporating a new design into any living space.
Look for design inspiration by finding a few patterns that is desirable. Home improvement stores like Lowes or Home Depot have a good selection of magazines available for purchase. Walk through the store to look for free magazines. Watch television programs that focus on interior design and low cost redesign.
Design Patterns
Look for patterns on tiles, clothing, or in nature. Draw possible design plans and share them with a spouse or close friend if second opinions are desired. Sit outside in local parks or near the ocean to be inspired by nature. Some fun ideas to test out are argyle, plaid, or simple stripes!
Select the colors that will be used for the design. Most hardware and home improvement stores offer small sample sized jars of paint. Use these small portions of paint to test out design ideas on a canvas or even a poster board. Having paint on a wall for a few hours to test it, helps to give a good visual on how the design flows with the current room furniture.
Design Measurements
Use a large measuring stick or an accurate tape measure to ensure that the design is the right size and shape. Use a pencil to mark where the painters tape should be applied. Use a laser type level to ensure that the tape is level before any paint is applied to the wall.
Paints with built in primer saves a great deal of time. The current color of the wall can be used as part of the design element, or it can be changed. Consider using complimentary colors in the design. White can be very complimenting in a design if the crown molding in the room is white.
Renters may be able to convince their landlords to allow a portion of the walls to be painted. Take action on design plans. Use these tips when implement a new design element into a personal residence or place of business.
