Looking for something different in your home decor? Do you consider yourself a wine connoissuer? Why not try out a wine country feel for your next redecorating project? Wine country decor lends itself well to any home with its cozy, country feeling. Read on and give it a try!

Decorating can be homey yet hip, classic yet surprising, traditional yet creative. If you are looking for a way to bring a lovely kind of ambience to your home with several different elements that for some reason all work together to form one look, consider using country and country-inspired pieces to create a refreshing, comfortable mood. Here are key points to remember when decorating your home wine country style:

Color it with wine country shades.

Country shades tend to lean toward warm, golden and creamy colors. However, that does not mean that using cooler shades is ineffective. Colors such as turquoise, olive green and periwinkle work remarkably well to strike a balance between warmth and cool. Of course, no country-style decor is ever complete without borrowing from the different shades of brown and earth, colors that can be used as a background, a border or a highlighter. Colors can be used to create depth or an illusion of space and are especially useful in changing moods.

Ones to try: Use colors inspired by nature such as shades of yellow, orange, brown, ivory, burgundy, rust, blue and green.

Go simple and more.

Wine country style decorating can be simple but it can also be elegant and rustic with a hint at modernism. When choosing furniture, look for finished and stained hardwoods, carved natural stone and dark-finished iron. Most ironwork in country-style decorating are used for accents, although many fine furniture and fixtures also incorporate function into the design.

As for upholstery, look for leather, fabric or natural materials such as wool or cotton. Or just simply go for the natural, bare wood look and allow the grain to come through.

Bring the flair.

Wine country decorating is about creativity, so do not be afraid to explore the possibility of combinations, such as reds and yellows, greens and oranges, copper and deep jade. Use dark colors in accents such as vases, rugs or furniture.

Use patterns. Nature patterns including flowers, trees and fruits. Patterns can match or complement colors on walls, furniture, curtains and decors.

A tip: If unsure about how certain colors will appear together, try using patterns through texture instead. Texture works well for creating interest and depth without challenging an existing color scheme.

Nice! I think I'll adopt some of these ideas for my living room and decorate my fireplace with grapevines. Thanks for the inspiration!
